The pages of christianapologetic.org define what Christians believe, why we believe it and what we should do about it. These doctrinal principles have not changed since the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, nearly all Christian fundamentals have been periodically challenged by critics offering a plethora of proposed improvements; the frequency of these suggested changes increased after the Protestant Reformation. Corrections have been suggested by the adherents of Baha’i, Christian Science, Hare Krishna, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormonism, Transcendental Meditation, the Unification Church, the Unity School, the Way, the Worldwide Church of God and, most recently, by the progressive Church of Woke just to name a few. Challenges are often limited to changes in Christian beliefs about God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, Sin and Salvation. But some challenges demand all of Christianity be sent to the dust bin except for a few token analogies useful to the challengers. Regardless of the details, all these challenges represent lawlessness, apostasy, heresy and blasphemy. All are fraudulent. All are lies. None are remotely Christian!
The Church of Woke is a recent, albeit extreme, example; it is locked in a death struggle with the idea of American Exceptionalism and the legitimacy of Christianity. The Church of Woke does not seek to modify Christianity; it seeks to destroy Christianity while retaining a few buzz words for its own use. The practical side of the Church of Woke claims to advocate for the destruction of racism, patriarchy and heteronormativity using critical race theory, intersectionality and other tools of social justice; this church intends to upend America just like fourth century Christianity upended the Roman Empire. The spiritual side of the Church of Woke is more difficult to define. Becoming woke is supposed to be a religious signal that you have heard the good news and seen the light. Awakening means witnessing revealed truth and experiencing spiritual transformation. But if woke has a spiritual aspect then the Church of Woke must recognize at least one powerful, supernatural being. This god, per se, has not been identified but some likely candidates have been suggested (Eph 2:2, 6:11-12).
To simplify an explanation of the woke agenda, imagine that every American is placed in one of two categories which, for the purpose of illustration, can be called elect and reprobate. All reprobate Americans are afflicted with an original sin comprising racism, patriarchy and heteronormativity. This sin is not acquired; it is present at birth. Redemption from the bondage of this original sin is possible but only by following spiritual leaders in the Church of Woke. Some members of this church rely on a humanist foundation for their knowledge but the most influential leaders derive their wisdom and authority from a spiritual source which serves as their god.
Most Americans have some respect for their founders and the American way of life which values liberty, community, church and family. But the Church of Woke seeks to destroy this respect for American life and sees victory on the horizon. That victory would mean the near fatal weakening of Christianity and American values. Curiously, many young residents of America yearn for its sociological destruction and dream of anarchy. They despise the country that has given them a life envied by the world.
Perhaps a prayer is appropriate for America at a crossroads:
Almighty God,
Bring revival to the church of Jesus Christ,
Bring repentance to America whose people have,
Lost their moral compass,
Corrupted their ethical values,
Obscured their historic character,
Abandoned their role-model integrity and
Betrayed future generations.
There is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof leads to death (Prov 14:12).
