HOW HOLY IS GOD?

God is said to be infinite in His attributes of being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth.  This means He is holy beyond comprehension.  In the words of Richard Watson:

“Holiness in God is more than a mere absence of moral evil; more than approval, and even delight in moral goodness; more than simple aversion and displeasure at what is contrary to it…The holiness of God is so intense, that whatever is opposed to it is the object of an active displacence, of hatred, of opposition, and resistance, and that this sentiment is inflexible and eternal.  Agreeably to this, God is, in Scripture, said to be of purer eyes than to behold iniquity (Habak 1:13) – and we are taught that the thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord. (Prov 15:26)”

How might such a God interact with a nation whose people increasingly say: we have a right to ourselves; we can be ruled by our own intellect, heart and will; we can embrace humanism; we can reject God?  What might such a God do with a nation whose people embrace all kinds of sexual perversion despite clear warnings (Ge 19:1-13; Lev 18:22, 20:13; Rom 1:26-27; 1 Cor 6:9; 1 Tim 1:10; Jude 7)?  How might such a God respond to a nation whose people delight in the murder of babies in the womb?  Perhaps the answer is in Scripture: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.  (Heb 10:31)
